Performing Saturday night at the Brick & Mortar Music Hall was Canadian singer and songwriter Lauren Isenberg, aka Renforshort. Renforshort began writing songs at the age of 13 and by 15 was posting cover-song videos online and performing at local open-mike nights. In February 2019, she released her first single, “Waves”, followed by “Mind Games” which went viral and led to her signing with Geffen Records. Renforshort recently released her 3rd LP “Clean Hands Dirty Water“.
San Francisco was Renforshort’s second stop on her ‘For the Thrill of It’ US tour powered by Popscene. She put on a great show for new fans like me and dedicated fans, some of which traveled all the way from Canada, and were first in line prior to doors opening to see her perform. Renforshort has previously described her sound as “bubble-gum grunge. I liken it more to polished indie pop. Her songs easily grab your ear with catchy hooks, energy and youthful angst lyrics. Renforshort put on a very energetic show that was fun to watch and listen to. I look forward to seeing her next time she comes to town.
Opening up for Renforshort was Sophie Cates formerly known as Silver Sphere. Sophie is an American singer-songwriter from of Los Angeles. Cate’s recently released her second studio album SUPERNOVA. The album chronicles of her various stages of grief as she reconciled her high-profile breakup with well-established musician in the public eye.
Sophie’s set list was a variety of songs from all of EPs and albums. She provided a very personal soulful one woman performance.
