Shannon and the Clams delivered a powerful and unforgettable performance at Oakland’s Fox Theater, capping off their tour in style with one of their biggest headlining shows to date. The grandeur of the venue provided the perfect backdrop for their signature blend of doo-wop, surf rock, and garage punk. Frontwoman Shannon Shaw’s rich, soulful vocals cut through the packed theater as the band moved seamlessly through a setlist of fan favorites and new material from their latest album, The Moon Is in the Wrong Place. Tracks like “The Vow” and “Real or Magic” showcased the album’s dreamy, melancholic tones, which explore themes of longing and displacement. Their live renditions of these songs added an extra layer of emotional intensity, captivating the crowd. Other highlights include “Ozma,” “The Boy,” and their unique cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” was amazing!
What truly set this show apart was the palpable sense of celebration in the air. The audience, clearly devoted to the band (many sporting DIY Shannon and the Clams shirts), responded to every song with roaring applause and enthusiastic sing-alongs. The Clams’ ability to evoke both nostalgia and innovation in their music was on full display, as they blended the vintage sounds of their past with the reflective, moodier vibe of The Moon Is in the Wrong Place. The show felt like a culmination of their journey so far, as they stood on the iconic Fox Theater stage in their hometown, cementing their status as a dynamic force in the indie rock scene. Ending the night with a raucous encore that left everyone buzzing, Shannon and the Clams proved why they’ve become one of the most exciting live acts around.
