I could talk about how Nils Frahm is an amazing pianist. I could talk about his background as a Berlin based musician, composer, producer. I could talk about the variety of emotions that the show brings about. I could talk about the interesting effects and instruments and electronic doo-dads that he uses to create his environments. I could talk about his 20 year discography that includes collaborations with the who’s who of electronic music. But instead of that, I just want to say that Nils Frahm took the Fox Theater’s audience on a journey on a random Monday night.
The journey was bigger than the Fox. The journey was bigger than Oakland. The journey was sometimes funny, sometimes deeply textured, and sometimes included the audiences loud voices. The thing about this journey though – is that it always moved. Always had a direction. Always kept rising up.
At the end of the evening, this photographer’s +1 said to me “wow, that was a trip.” Yup, Ana – totally agree.
