American actress and singer-songwriter Maya Hawke played a sold out show at The Chapel SF Saturday night. Maya made her musical debut in 2020 with Blush, a dusty alt-country album. She is currently on tour promoting her fourth album ‘’Maitreya Corso’, due to be released in May and built around a fictional persona named Maitreya Corso exploring themes of ego and creation.
Joining her on stage were her regular collaborators Christian Lee Hutson (whom she recently married) and violinist and vocalist Odessa Jorgensen performing totally acoustic set of her new album. Earplugs were not required this evening.
Maya has a warm, charming stage presence, with an airy vocal style that translates well live. Her performance was imitate and striped back and felt more like more like a “living room” gathering that blended folk music with personal storytelling than a standard concert. The performance filled the venue with indie folk ballads that flowed seamlessly into one another.
