SAN FRANCISCO — Ending their last show of the Crash Tour at Chase Center, Kehlani was welcomed home to a sold-out crowd Saturday night.
No stranger to the Bay, the Oakland native showed why they exuded black excellence at its finest. Stepping onto the stage following the droning synth intro of “Next To You”, Kehlani’s enchanting vocals drew in the crowd as they began to harmonize along. With the addition of a live band, the experience of witnessing their love of music and performance was a joy for those in attendance.
The electrifying rumble of the wailing guitar solos added a rock and roll flair by adding epic solos to songs such as “Distraction” and “Gangsta”. The crowd harmonized to “Honey”, acapella, as it is known as a popular queer anthem. A special moment in the night was towards the end of the show, Kehlani brought up twelve kids to the stage to give them a moment to shine and dance to “Kehlani” with them all give her a group hug before leaving the stage.
With the Crash Tour ending, Kehlani gave a performance that reminded those in attendance that you’ve always got to start from somewhere and don’t let anyone dim your light. They spoke of humbling beginnings, opening for G-Eazy to headlining their tour but remembering to pay respects to those in the Bay with surprise appearances by Oakland legends, Mista Fab and Kamaiyah.
The trio from London, Flo, full of flair and talent, performed their hit songs “Summertime”, “Fly”, and “Losing You”. Excluding clear influences of iconic girl groups of the 2000s such as Destiny’s Child, Spice Girls, and 3LW, Flo is quintessential pop at its finest.
Starting the show, Atlanta native, Anycia, performed songs from her latest album, Princess Pop That, including “Type Beat, “BRB”, and “Back Outside”.
