Before even stepping inside the Regency Ballroom, I knew about the rules. A general guideline list of things written by Joey Valence and Brae liven up the audience so they wouldn’t get night after night of audience of a handful of excited concert goers among a sea of people gormlessly staring at them. I won’t go over all of them, but it was a pretty basic checklist of “Always be dancing, bring and make a new friend, leave covered in sweat” and from the fact that I could feel the floor shake like it was an elephant trampoline even when I was far in the back, at least that first rule was being followed to a T (and at the very least, I was covered in sweat when I left).

Outside of the large mirrorball head in the middle of the stage that covered up the DJ table and the lit up stands for them both to stand on, the whole affair was pretty barebones in terms of dressing. It simply was an hour and a half of two dudes from PA absolutely commanding a room of teenagers and 20-somethings. Very silly without ever delving into kitsch or cheese, and incredibly earnest throughout. I’m absolutely pumped to see what they do next.

Local act AG Club was a perfect opener, bringing their own brand of energy to the affair. Very glad they’re on tour with JVB, far more people should learn about them.
