This past weekend, music once again echoed across Mount Tamalpais as the annual Sound Summit brought together artists and audiences for a day of music in one of the Bay Area’s most breathtaking settings. The festival, held at the historic Mountain Theater, carried on its tradition of celebrating live performance while raising awareness and support for Mount Tam’s preservation.

This year’s lineup featured Cake, Alvvays, Stand!, and Wolf Jett, drawing a joyful crowd that filled the stone amphitheater with dancing, singing, and a sense of community spirit. The natural backdrop of Mount Tam provided a dramatic stage, reminding everyone why this festival is more than just music — it’s about protecting a beloved landmark.
Founded in 2015 by the nonprofit Roots & Branches Conservancy, Sound Summit was created as both a cultural event and a benefit concert, with proceeds going toward stewardship of Mount Tamalpais State Park. Over the years, it has hosted artists ranging from Wilco to Herbie Hancock, Jim James to Father John Misty, helping to raise significant funds for conservation efforts while creating unforgettable musical memories.
This year’s edition continued that mission — blending world-class performances with a deep sense of place and purpose, high above the Bay.
Cake
This year’s headliner, their return felt especially meaningful, given Cake’s earlier participation in Mount Tam Jam in 2013, an event that helped inspire the launch of Sound Summit.

Alvvays
The Canadian indie-pop band, delivering lush, dreamy reverb-laden tunes. This was their only California show of 2025.

Featured artists included legends like Taj Mahal, Narada Michael Walden, Martin Luther McCoy, Vicki Randle, Rustee Allen, plus members of Graham Central Station. This set was a cornerstone of the day—both emotionally and musically—with hits spanning the late 1960s-early 70s catalog of Sly’s work.

Real Estate
East Coast rockers known for their shimmering guitar work and laid-back vibe.

Wolf Jett
A rising folk/cosmic rock outfit, adding local flavor and introspective energy to the stages.
