Perfume Genius has learned to be a lot.
In my first visit to the Castro Theatre since the renovation, I got to see an act I’ve seen on many stages over many years. The songs may change but his demeanor as he cavorts and even sashays across these floors has never changed. A theater like this worked perfectly as his act always borders on a kind of dance performance of an elegant collapse as it matches the kind of desperate and yearning lyrics that make up a large chunk of his songs. It’s all very melodramatic and while I’m usually opposed to melodrama, I’ve never gotten tired of him.

Storefront Church opened up the show with a passionate showing of their own, with Lucas Frank bringing his own forms of acting as he belts out.
