First off I’m just glad this Haute and Freddy show took place at the Castro Theatre rather than Bimbo’s, where it was originally going to take place. Nothing against Bimbo’s and I know they would do great there, but as I saw them bring out a cavalcade of clowns and then five people from the audience I knew that such a show really needed the size of the stage and the size of the crowd to see such a spectacle. The two former pop songwriters turned showpeople perfectly fit the queer vibe of the venue as it was filled with costumed people both on and off the stage as the crowd knew to show up in their finest costumes of whimsy. Clowns from Fou Fou Ha! collapsed out onto the stage around the midway mark and were a wonderful addition to keep the energy up. They mentioned that their last performance in San Francisco was a few blocks down at the Cafe Du Nord and it’s so nice to see them explode in such a way.

The Rubin Brothers started off the show with a musical comedy act of juggling and acrobatics mixed in with extremely silly songs. It was a tinge too juvenile for my own taste but I won’t lie, the skill was on display and they were a perfect intro to the whole affair.
