The description of this show was Florist was playing both their first EP Holdly and their first LP The Birds Outside Sang at the Great American Music Hall and outside of a cut off of Jellywish as their encore, they did exactly that. I recall fondly when they were getting hype 11 years ago when both of these released around the same time. They’ve released wonderful albums since then, some I would say surpass these first two, but being able to hear them play those songs again transported me back that decade ago.

There is a lightness to these songs that I thought was perfectly encapsulated by the steam rising from Emily’s tea. It is a constant warmth that rises and falls and moves around like the descriptions of life and loss. The whole set felt like a hug that was transported from the past that is both long ago and yet within arms’ reach. I’m extremely grateful they decided to do this short but very sweet tour.

Told Slant opened the show and brought their own soft spoken sounds as a great compliment to Florist’s mood. Felix Walworth’s songwriting feels like you’re the only one he’s singing to, even in a large crowd.
