Wreckage: A Musical Tragicomedy is the San Francisco Mime Troupe’s latest production, a political satire blending humor, music, and social commentary. The story follows a diverse cast of characters, including an evangelical preacher preparing for the Rapture while soliciting donations along with the church’s new accountant, a Japanese American florist facing eviction, tech workers developing an always-on AI assistant, and ICE agents wrestling with the realities of their jobs. What begin as separate storylines gradually converge, revealing how housing, technology, immigration, and economic inequality are deeply connected.
With four actors playing every role, backed by a live three-piece band, the Mime Troupe delivers its message through bold characters, clever songs, and sharp comedy. As the seemingly unrelated storylines intertwine, the production explores how ordinary people can find common ground in the face of shared challenges and make real change comes through collective action
