Continuing its 88-year tradition of yearly performances at Stern Grove Festival, the San Francisco Symphony took the stage, beneath the towering eucalyptus on Sunday, July 6th.

Conducted by Music Director Edwin Outwater, the Orchestra played to a packed audience of over 10 thousand attendees.

Following a set featuring one of Outwater’s favorite John Williams pieces and another during which the audience was encouraged to “clap for the bassoon” at a few key moments, the Symphony was joined on stage by Hawaiian ukulele virtuoso Taimane and her band.

Tiamane’s stage presence and sound contrasted and elevated the Symphony into new musical terrain — including a lengthy ukulele-driven, heavy metal medley.

Stern Grove Festival continues this Sunday with a performance by Phantogram.
