When I mention that the Jasmine.4.t show at the Rickshaw Stop was kind, I don’t mean to say that most shows are unkind. I try to stay away from generally mean concerts and there aren’t many to begin with. What I mean to say is there is a genuine sense of kindness and community that radiates from this show. Considerate is another great word for it, as before the tour even started, she posted accessibility information on each venue so people were aware of what to expect. Thankfully, the Rickshaw is extremely wheelchair friendly and has two gender neutral bathrooms so everything was just fine, although other venues are not so much.
Jasmine mentioned near the beginning of her set that she felt worried doing this tour in America, with the rampant transphobia occurring in our government right now, but I’m so glad she did. In doing so, she was able to create genuine safe spaces to celebrate transness and queer joy, along with some really great music as she breezed through her excellent debut album. This was the last show of her US tour but I’m really hoping she comes back soon, and hopefully the country will be in a better place when she visits.

Opening was local group Mommy Mommy who whipped through a surprising 50 minute set that felt like a headlining set on it’s own. It even ended on a much heavier song which blew my socks off. Def check them out ASAP.
