Frankie Cosmos writes songs that feel instantly recognizable even if you might not have heard them. There’s a timeless quality to each one of her compositions that work extremely well recorded and even more so live. The lighting of the Great American Music Hall was always approximately what you see in each of these photos. A soft blue blanketed itself around the performers and audience, which matched the comforting tunes. I describe the vibe as a bedroom with a nightlight that projects ocean animals on your walls. The timeless familiarity of the songs and the aesthetic really lent itself to a kind of nostalgia for a childhood that you might not have had but you know is comfortable. This is made impressive given that a good half was dedicated to her latest album yet it felt like she’s been singing those songs for years.
This was my fourth time seeing them and it won’t be my last.

Opening was two sets from Emily Yacina and local musician Chris Cohen respectively, who put on wonderful opening sets that fit the mood extremely well. Chris plays all the time around the Bay and he’s always a delight to see opening a show or headlining one of his own.
