Two songs into the Car Seat Headrest set, the entire crowd of the Fox Theater erupted into boos and jeering, I even joined in with my own shout. This wasn’t because of anything the band did but because just minutes into their set, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays in the final game of the World Series. While the Athletics aren’t exactly rivals towards the Dodgers, there was enough of a contingent of Giants fans that, when Will Toledo mentioned how the game was going, that exact cacophony of groans and yells erupted. Thankfully after that he mentioned that despite that, we’re all lucky to be at this show right now.

And I did feel lucky! The setlist consisted of all of their newest album alongside a medley which finished out the encore. It was really impressive to see him exude such energy despite mostly just standing in place, mask covering whatever expression he was making at the time. The remnants of Halloween also peppered the audience and band as various people had either total or partial costumes on, alongside the drummer who was showing off a sick light up mohawk, and the bassist who rocked the bird head until I assume it got too hard to play after a while.

Long running indie pop/hip hop group WHY? opened up the show and it was nice to see their quirky off kilter kind of music since I hadn’t seen them in over a decade at this point. They worked a nice mix of their old and new, most of which from their 2024 album “The Well I Fell Into”.
